In this WHSLA Wisdom Chat, Liz Suelzer and Karen Hanus of Advocate Health, will deliver a presentation focused on the role the Library plays in the successful implementation of hospital system-wide tools, with a look into our experience with implementing Lippincott Nursing Procedures. The session will illustrate how librarians collaborate with clinical and IT teams to ensure seamless implementation. Attendees will gain insights into problems the hospital system or library may encounter when librarians are not at the table during implementation as well as what special knowledge and skills librarians can contribute to the implementation.

This presentation will be followed by our usual round of sharing.

In this Wisdom Chat, Ashley Zeidler, MLIS, Scholarly Communications Librarian at The Medical College of Wisconsin Libraries, will share her experience going through the 2024 cohort of the Data Services Continuing Professional Education (DSCPE) program. This twelve-week program included learning modules from RDMLA, live sessions with data science professionals, and a capstone project which allowed participants to work directly with a mentor institution. This proved to be an invaluable experience that I would encourage anyone else who is interested in data services to apply for.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is everywhere these days. As librarians, navigating the AI landscape can seem overwhelming. This upcoming Wisdom Chat, presented by Ebling Librarians Leslie Christensen, Lia Vellardita, Susan Vandagriff, and Paije Wilson from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will provide a critical look at popular generative AI tools within the context of literature summarization and searching. Specifically, the chat will include:

• A brief overview of the different types of AI and how they relate to each other
• The benefits and limitations of summarizers for individual articles, with an example from Elicit
• The benefits and limitations of summarizers for a body of literature, with examples from Perplexity and OpenEvidence
• An in-depth, critical discussion of OpenEvidence
• The benefits and limitations of chatbots for the creation of PubMed search strategies, with an example from ChatGPT

Attendees will walk away with knowledge of the benefits and limitations of some available generative AI tools, awareness of these tools' potential applications, and fundamental skills on how to approach these tools using a critical lens.

Chat GPT - A Technology to Watch: WHSLA Wisdom Chat Friday, March 24th

Join us Friday, March 24, 2023, at 1:00 pm for Chat GTP, A Technology to Watch. 

Karen Hanus will lead us in a 30-minute roundtable discussion about CHAT GPT and its ramifications for library users and librarians. This will be followed by our usual sharing about what we are working, what’s new in our libraries, institutions, or personal life.
