As many readers are likely aware, the National Institutes of Health's (NIH's) 2024 Public Access Policy went into effect July 1, 2025.
According to the NIH's overview and FAQ pages, this policy applies to "any manuscript accepted for publication in a journal, on or after July 1, 2025, that is the result of funding by NIH in whole or in part" and "requires that author accepted manuscripts accepted for publication in a journal, on or after July 1, 2025, to be submitted to PubMed Central upon acceptance for publication, for public availability without embargo upon the Official Date of Publication."

Lead exposure can cause neurological problems, even death — especially in children. Despite this, the metal has been pervasive in many aspects of life in Milwaukee and the rest of the United States for more than a century. Many industries added lead to their manufacturing processes and products, endangering their workers and putting communities at risk through polluted air, contaminated water and paint dust.
“This Lead is Killing Us” is produced by the National Library of Medicine and features photographs, advertisements, newspaper articles, official reports and other materials that reveal how and when lead has hurt Americans’ health and shines a light on milestone civic actions that have protected communities against this environmental danger.

I tuned into a fascinating webinar from NNLM Region 6 earlier this week: AI, Higher Education, and Medical Librarianship: Opportunities and Risks presented by Michael Flierl from Ohio State. What I especially liked about it was the discussion throughout and examples of how AI and ChatGPT are being used in educational settings to teach things like critical thinking and analysis. It definitely sparked ideas for me on how I might weave those themes into my thinking of and teaching about AI and ChatGPT more specifically.

Innovators across VHA have an ambitious goal: for every VA Medical Center to have access to 3D printing services. The 3D Printing Network is bringing VHA closer to this reality, with 75 sites across the enterprise and counting. Expanding access to 3DP capabilities can address several current state challenges to scale and allow Veterans to have equitable access to innovative, timely, and personalized care.
